Carter Van Engelenhoven

May 15, 1998 - September 29, 2018

Carter Van Engelenhoven passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018, at his home in Union, Kentucky at the age of 20.
Carter Dylan Van Engelenhoven was born on May 15, 1998, in Des Moines, Iowa and was the son of Rick and Shari (Ewing) Van Engelenhoven. The family moved to Perrysburg, Ohio when Carter was nine and to Union, Kentucky when he was 16. Carter graduated from Ryle High School in 2017. He was very intelligent and planned to become an Officer in the Army.
Carter was full of life, a friend to everyone he met and loved spending time with friends and family. He had a great sense of humor and liked making everyone laugh. He always wanted to be outside and loved hiking, boating, man-tubing, and camping. He spent many family vacations in Oskaloosa, Lake Rathbun, and Florida and loved scuba diving in Mexico. He enjoyed playing sports, especially football. He also played basketball, baseball, soccer and achieved numerous belts in Taekwondo.
Carter had a strong faith and belief in Jesus Christ, and he loved his immediate and extended family. His family includes his parents, Rick and Shari and two sisters, Paige and Emma. He is also survived by his grandparents Emmett and Fleeta Ewing and Arvin and Dena Van Engelenhoven, his uncles and aunts Scott and Jill Ewing, Greg and Diane Ewing, Kevin and Jessica Van Engelenhoven, Scott and Tina Van Engelenhoven and Drew Van Engelenhoven, and many cousins.
Carter will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. We are lucky to have loved him and been loved by him. Please hold him close, as we do, in your mind and your spirit. A celebration of Carters life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday afternoon, October 5, 2018, at Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Rev. Jon Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Langkamp Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements. Memories and condolences can be sent to the family by visiting

With deepest sympathies to the family of Carter. My son, Jake, and he were friends in junior high in Perrysburg. I will always remember the sweet, funny young man who came over to our home many times to hang out. We send our prayers and love to you all.
