Dennis Hasselman, 66, of rural Ottumwa, died Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the Sigourney Health Center in Sigourney. He was born August 23, 1952, in Oskaloosa, the son of Homer and Doretha DeBruin Hasselman. He attended Prine Country School through 6th grade. He then transitioned to Oskaloosa Community School and graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1970. He continued his education at William Penn College and graduated and earned his teaching degree from there in 1974. Following graduation from college he taught one year at North Linn Community Schools. He later moved back to southern Iowa and taught and drove school bus for Fremont Community School District until 1988. In 1988, he transitioned to farming full-time and bought a farm west of Hedrick, Iowa. On March 25, 1989, he was united in marriage to Ann (Kent) Moore. The two of them shared a passion for farming and love of their farm for the past 30 years. At a young age he made his profession of faith in the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.
