Dorothy Romano

Dorothy (Dot) Romano, 73, of Oskaloosa was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 4, 2019. She was born May 3, 1946 in Easton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Charles and Antonette (Falcone) Finken. She graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School with the class of 1964. On October 5, 1975 Dot married her "Knight in Shining Armor", Dominick Romano. Together, they raised Dot's four children from a previous marriage. Dot dedicated her life to helping and caring for others. She spent over 35 years teaching Sunday school, leading Girl Scout troops, and running an in home licensed daycare. She also owned and operated "Rainbow Kids Pre School and Daycare" for over six years. She enjoyed crocheting and she spent a majority of her time crocheting blankets, hats and scarves for those in need in and around her community. She also made sure orphans in Haiti had clothing and shoes. Operation Christmas Child was a huge part of her Christmas giving and she always gave with a grateful and generous heart. She also looked forward to the county fairs every year where she would enter her craft projects, plants, and flowers from her gardens and volunteered her time in the children's area. Dot will be remembered as an amazing woman of faith with a heart and spirit of pure gold. She had spent countless hours of her life sharing her love for the Lord with others. Her heart had room for anyone and she continuously poured it out on those around her.

Her family includes her husband of 43 years, Dominick Romano; her four children, Paul Hummer, of Glendale, Arizona, Deana (Christopher) Boos of Winchester, California, Paula (Brian) Wilson of Crest View, Florida, Jeffrey Hummer of Oskaloosa; and her step-son Jimmy Romano of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Connor, Kelsey, Kennedy, Hunter, Jordan, and Haley; two brothers, Mike and Anthony Finken of New Jersey, and many nieces and nephews. Dot's family didn't just consist of blood relatives; it consisted of many friends who had become her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Diana; a sister in law, Gabrielle Finken; two brothers, Joe and Charles Finken; two sisters in infancy, her Aunt, Theresa Couch and a stepson, Anthony Romano

In honor of her loving and generous heart and to keep her legacy alive we are asking that any donations go to a place that is very near and dear to her heart. Keaton's Angel Home is an orphanage in Taiwan for special needs children. She spent her last days here on this earth crocheting blankets for cribs and beds at Keaton's Angel Home. A Celebration of life service for Dot will be held on Sunday, July 7th at 2p.m. at Liberty Evangelical Free Church in Pella, Iowa.
