Henrietta Aalsburg Groenenboom died April 2, 2019, at Northern Mahaska Specialty Care in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where she had been a resident since September 2014 at the age of 94 years, 51 weeks.
Henrietta was born on April 9, 1924, on a farm in Mahaska County, Iowa, to Antonie and Minnie MacDaniel Aalsburg. She graduated from Kirkville High School in 1941.
Henrietta then attended Murphy's Business School in Oskaloosa and worked in Kansas City and Oskaloosa for several years.
On February 18, 1948, she married Wilbur Groenenboom and set up housekeeping on a farm one and one-half miles north of Oskaloosa where she resided the rest of her life.
Henrietta's community involvement included West Center Country School, Lacey United Methodist Church, Mahaska County 4-H, People-to-People, the Iowa United Methodist Volunteers in Mission program, and Master Farm Homemakers. She held leadership roles in all of these endeavors.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur, her son Jeffrey, her son-in-law Mike Clark, her parents and her siblings.
Henrietta is survived by her children: Joyce (Ray) Smith, St Louis, MO Phyllis Clark, Brandon IA, and John (Karla) Groenenboom, Mesa AZ; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and the Netherlands; including special cousin, John Aalsburg.
Funeral services for Henrietta will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 8, 2019, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jim Dotson of the Lacey United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Visitation will begin a 10 a.m., Sunday at Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 1-4 p.m. Sunday afternoon and from 10 a.m. to service time on Monday morning. Memorials may be directed to Lacey United Methodist Church or Imagine the Possibilities.
