Julia Ann Rodemeyer, 94, of Osage and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Friday, April 12, 2019, while under hospice care in Osage, Iowa. She was born September 26, 1924, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Arthur and Nora Bryan Holland. She moved to a farm in Springfield, Missouri, with her parents at a young age. She was united in marriage to Allen H. Rodemeyer from Alexander, Iowa, on August 30, 1941, in Mason City, after he returned from serving his country during WWII. After their marriage, they relocated to Tipton, Iowa. She was a homemaker for several years before becoming a chair side dental assistant. They moved to Oskaloosa in 1965, as Allen had taken a job as a professor at William Penn College. She was a dorm mother in an off-campus dorm for one year before becoming a chair side dental assistant for Dr. Zimmerman. She retired in 1989. Following retirement, they enjoyed many bus trips together. One of the most memorable trips was Europe in 1995. They traveled with a group of the 102nd Infantry to a celebration in Heerlen, Holland, to celebrate 55 years to the day the 102nd liberated that city. Julia and Allen remained in Oskaloosa until 2012, when they moved to Osage to senior living and then to assisted living. Allen died on September 22, 2014; Julia stayed in Osage following his death. Her hobbies included collecting antiques, especially children's antique toys, going to auctions, quilting, embroidery, and cross stitch. She also enjoyed the game of golf and playing bridge with friends. Julia was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa and spent time as a Sunday School teacher, a chairman of the church circle. She was also president of Woman's Club, and a member of the Women's Democratic Group.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Tom) Heard of Osage; six grandchildren, Kelly Heard, Kristi (Steve) Aschenbrenner, TC (Val) Heard all of Osage, Tammi (Adam) Avila of Parker, Colorado, Todd (Michelle) Rodemeyer of Holtz Summit, Missouri, and Dawna Boydston of Missouri; sixteen great grandchildren, Christopher (Paige) , Matthew (Kelsey), Caleb and Nathan Bushbaum of Osage, Dylan Claudia, and Ally Aschenbrenner of Osage, Emma, Zach, and Noland Heard of Osage, Gabe and Jacob Avila of Colorado, Jacob and Justin Rodemeyer of Missouri, and Alexa and Brian Boydston of Missouri; a son Michael Rodemeyer of Missouri; and a nephew Doug Rodemeyer of Mason City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nora and Arthur Holland; husband, Allen Harvey Rodemeyer; one great grandson Dylan Boydston; and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 15, 2019, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Craig Palmer officiating. Burial will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at 1 p.m. in the Clear Creek Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Family will be present from 12 noon until service time at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2019, to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Stephens Memorial Animal Shelter in Oskaloosa.
