Mathew Wyngarden, 38, of rural Fremont, died Sunday, December 9, 2018. He was born October 9, 1980, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of John and Vicky Batterson Wyngarden. Growing up in rural Mahaska County he had a lifelong love of livestock and wildlife. He was always active in 4-H and F.F.A. On September 24, 2011, he was united in marriage to Jamie Vander Leest at Honey Creek Resort at Lake Rathbun. Mat completed a five-year apprenticeship program with the Local 33 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. Upon completing his apprenticeship, he worked as a union plumber and steamfitter for Winger Mechanical in Ottumwa. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and Ice fishing. The only thing that made enjoying the outdoors better for Mat is when his two boys would join him. He loved sharing his love of hunting, fishing, and raising livestock with his boys. He was a member of the Local 33 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and always looked forward to playing cards with his friends.
