Oskaloosa, Iowa - DR. CARL CARLSON

OSKALOOSA - Dr. Carl William Carlson, D.O. (Doc), 95, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025 at Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa, surrounded by his children.

He was born February 20, 1930 in Ottumwa. Carl was a devoted husband to his wife Marcene Beth Ross for 72 years and she preceded him in death January 2023.

He was a graduate of Fort Madison High School and dedicated his career to serving Bussey as the local family physician for 37 years retiring in 1996. He was passionate about travel throughout the United States. Until retirement he was an active member for over 50 years of Integrity Masonic Lodge #584, Eastern Star and the city of Bussey. He was proud to have served his country in the Navy and Fleet Marines in both post World War II and the Korean War. His service led him from the pursuit of a teaching degree to that of a physician, graduating from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1959.

He is survived by his children, Karen (James) Pitt of Columbia, MO, Carl S. (Beverly) Carlson of Oak Grove, MO and Susan (Ryan) Rowley of Oskaloosa; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and a great grandson.

Visitation with family present to greet friends will be 12 p.m. noon to 1 p.m. Monday August 4th at Reece Funeral Home.

A Masonic service will be 1 p.m. Monday August 4th at Reece Funeral Home followed by funeral services.

Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military honors conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa.
