Clyde E. Van Klaveren
Clyde Eugene Van Klaveren, 89, a former resident of Oskaloosa, IA, passed away on September 21, 2019, in Petoskey, MI. Clyde was born in Eddyville, IA, on October 16, 1929, the youngest son of Arthur and Nita (Blackwood) Van Klaveren. His mother passed away two months after his birth, requiring various relatives and family friends to care for him. When Clyde was about 3 years old, his father went to Illinois in search of work during the depression years. Clyde's half-brother, Herman Mooney and his wife, Edith, took Clyde in to raise. Herman taught Clyde how to work on mechanical things at Mooney's Fix It Shop.

Eventually, Clyde enlisted in the US Navy and served from 1948-1950, in the electronics field aboard the USS Cascade (AD-16) as a Petty Officer 3rd. Class. During this time span, Clyde married Dorothy Joan Cooley, in Lancaster, MO, on December 29, 1948. Two children were later born, Paul Eugene and Vickie Lynn. After the Navy discharge, Clyde went to work at Maytag for several years. His final job was at CLOW Valve Company where he retired as the Maintenance Supervisor, after 33 ½ years of employment. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and American Legion.
Clyde enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting (for game and mushrooms) with his son and best friend, Dan Beadle. He loved watching his children and grandchildren playing sports, racing go-karts and stock cars. Clyde enjoyed his last couple of years in Petoskey, MI. He loved to go for rides along Lake Michigan, looking at the water and sunsets. He played Bingo, enjoyed concerts, played Wii Bowling, puzzles and attended the weekly Friendship Center's Veterans gatherings. He loved ice cream cones and handing out candy on the 4th of July Parade Float.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Nita (Blackwood/Mooney) Van Klaveren; his wife Dorothy; 8 siblings: Herman, Wilbur, and Marie Mooney; Hazel, Henry, Dean, Andrew and Arthur Van Klaveren.

Clyde is survived by his 2 children and their spouses: Paul (Maryagnes) Van Klaveren of Harbor Springs, MI; Vickie (Marvin) Van Der Wal of Oskaloosa, IA; 4 grandchildren: Amanda (Douglas) Fredericks and Renee (Lucas) Momrik both of Clarkston, MI; Curtis (Jeanna) Van Der Wal and Cory (Laura) Van Der Wal both of Oskaloosa, IA; 6 great grandsons: Barak and Easton Momrik of Clarkston, MI; Connor and Cole Van Der Wal; Hayden and Brecken Van Der Wal of Oskaloosa, IA. 3 step-great grandsons: Landon, Hayden, and Owen Van Donselaar of Oskaloosa, IA, with another great grandchild expected soon. He is also survived by his sister, Gertrude (Rudy) Kauzlarich of Colona, IL, including several nieces and nephews.
