What a huge loss for the whole Oskaloosa community! This kindly gentleman farmer will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences to Gerri, Joel, Bryce, and to the extended Van Gilst family. I was shocked and so saddened to read of his passing. I always felt like I was with family when I was in the presence of Ken and Gerri. The Gray family and Van Gilst family friendship goes way back and spanned many decades. My dad Joe Gray’s best friend was Ken’s dad, Bass. My parents felt a profound affection and appreciation for Ken and all he did for others. He was always willing to lend a hand and help out in any and many challenging situations. I called him when I needed help with the sump pump,... starting a car, or answers to farm questions. I felt reassured that all would be ok, when I heard his truck pull into the driveway. Many households and the community will feel the enormous void after losing this good, caring, proud man of the land. I know the Gray family certainly will. A few years ago, a visiting friend and I rode with Ken on the combine during harvest, as he happily explained what we were seeing on the computer. It’s a lovely memory among many that I have of my association w Ken over the years. I shall miss him!!Read more
