Larry Richard Dorsey Obituary

Murrieta, CA - He grew up in Ottumwa, IA, born on July 4, 1935 and shared many happy memories of his years growing up there.

He passed away May 18, 2025 just shy of his 90th birthday. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Jean (Krehlik) Dorsey, 3 children; Jane (Howie) Klein of Pala, CA,

Eric (Stacy) Dorsey of Frisco,TX, and Laura (Dan) Jennings of Omaha, NE, 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, brother Tommy Dorsey of Clarion, IA, and brother Edward Dorsey of Colorado Springs, CO. He graduated from Cornell College in 1962 with a bachelor's in mathematics.

He had many talents and interests. He was in the military, he was a teacher, he was a business owner (The Boot Ranch of Oskaloosa, IA). Life brought several unique and interesting travel opportunities with his wife, Jean; including being stationed in Alaska, living on a cruise ship for two months headed for Hong Kong, as well as living and teaching on Guam for two years. He had interests over the years including reading, hunting with Vizslas, golf, woodworking, stained glass, and bike riding. He clocked endless hours of card games and loved puzzles of any kind including traditional, crossword, and Sudoku. He was a forever student of math/algebra/trig as well as history. He was passionate about our country and our military. He enjoyed watching old TV shows and movies with Jean and whomever stopped by to join. He was always willing to share his mouth watering stories about Jean's, his mom's and his Aunt Gertrude's cooking and baking throughout his life. He had a contagious sweet tooth and made the best caramel corn and homemade fudge topping for sundaes (vanilla ice cream only, of course). He had his family and his faith.

Retirement brought him and Jean to Tropic Star Resort in Pharr, TX, which introduced him to the best friends he could have asked for while living 25 years there. He was easily entertained with a cup of coffee and good conversation. He and Jean recently relocated to California to be near family where he was able to make some new memories and many smiles while enjoying their many great grandchildren. He lived a full and long life and left lasting stories and words of wisdom with all who knew him. We can all only hope to be so fortunate in accomplishing such a life.
