Larry James Long Obituary
Hedrick. Larry James Long, 85, of rural Hedrick died Thursday, November 21, 2024, at his home. He was born June 17, 1939, at the family home near Lovilia, Iowa, the son of Irwin and Lillian Rodwell Chambers. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1957. While in High School he drove the school bus. Following high school, he went to work at John Morell and Company in Ottumwa. On May 30, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary Lunkley in Sigourney, Iowa. Larry never struggled to stay busy, in addition to farming and putting up custom hoop buildings, he worked at Amana for a time and last he had a rural postal route for over 25 years. He always looked forward to attending his children and grandchildren's activities. He enjoyed collecting antique cars, reading, and hunting. He truly loved farming, especially with his family.
His family includes his wife of over 65 years Mary Long of rural Hedrick; their children, David (Naomi) Long of Troy, Missouri, Lisa Collins of Hedrick, Stephen (Kelly) Long of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Bryan (Shellie) Long of Hedrick, Daniel (Chelsey) Long of Hedrick, and Chris (Sandy) Long of Hedrick; seventeen grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Nancy and brother in law Jim George
As was Larry's wish his body has been cremated and no services are planned. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
