Marcia Branstetter (Van Draska) Obituary

Olathe, Kansas - Marcia Van Draska Branstetter

Nov 16, 1940 - Jan 5, 2026

Marcia Branstetter died on Jan 5 after a short, intense fight against cancer. She remained in control of her death, making clear decisions until the very end.

Marcia was born in Oskaloosa, IA, the oldest child of Bill and Elsie Van Draska. She graduated from Iowa State University.

Marcia taught language arts and reading in secondary schools in Des Moines, IA; Belton, MO; Kansas City, MO; and finished her long career at Blue Valley North High School, Overland Park, Ks. Thousands of students benefited from her insights and encyclopedic knowledge. She was passionate about reading and helping students develop a love of reading and literature.

She loved to travel and was fortunate to make many trips with Bob, from driving the AlCan Highway to crossing the Atlantic on the Queen Mary several times. Music was a shared love, and they learned ballroom dancing, which they enjoyed for many years.

Marcia is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bob Branstetter, her siblings, and nieces and nephews. No services are planned at this time.
