Ruth Stanley Obituary

Temple, TX - Ruth Stanley, 100, of Temple, Texas, and formerly of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Canyon Creek Memory Care in Temple.

Ruth Lorine Stanley, daughter of Otto Orvale and Freda Marie (Strohman) Utterback, was born February 27, 1925, in Delta, Iowa. She was a 1943 graduate of Delta High School and then went to work at Mahaska County Hospital as a nurse's aide. On September 19, 1945, Ruth was united in marriage to Lawrence "Glen" Stanley in Dothan, Alabama, while Glen was stationed there with the Army Air Force. They made their home in Oskaloosa after Glen's discharge in 1946, and Ruth remained at home with their young children. In the early 1960s, Ruth joined Glen at the radio station, KBOE. She performed a variety of roles at the station during her 20 years of service, but primarily served as the office manager. Ruth was a member of the First Christian Church, where she sang in the choir and directed the youth choir for 12 years. She was also a member of the Altrusa Club and the Ladies Kiwanis Club for many years. Ruth was an avid golfer and enjoyed the many friends she made on the course. She was an eleven-time champion of the Elmhurst Country Club tournament and won the city tournament twice.

Her family includes her daughter, Lynn Conger of Belton, TX; two granddaughters: Bobbi Stewart of Gatesville, TX, and Lisa (Robb) Huffman of Auburn, AL; and three great-grandchildren: Edward Stewart, Elias Hernandez, and Scarlet Huffman. Two brothers and sisters-in-law survive her: Newell and Jean Utterback of Winterset, Jim and Midge Utterback of Lee's Summit, MO, Donna Utterback of Bridge City, TX, and Maxine Courtney of Ottumwa, IA.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, on May 27, 2010; her son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Ann Stanley; seven brothers: Leland, Bruce, Jack, Hal, Larry, Loren, and Richard Utterback; and a sister, Betty Steele.

Memorial services for Ruth will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., Friday at the funeral chapel; the family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to The First Christian Church, Mahaska Health Foundations for the Hospice Serenity House, or the Huntington's Disease Society of America.
